The State Aid Grant Paving program provides a basis for county road departments to receive grant assistance for county maintained roads that qualify for the designation.
A county may have up to one-fourth of their adopted roads entered into the state aid program. They are typically arterial roads with high traffic or roads that serve as connectors between state highways. The list is fluid and may be altered as needed with collaboration between PCRD and TDOT.
Polk County has 110 miles of county adopted roads entered into the State Aid program which remain under the supervision of the road department.
We currently receive enough funding to pave 1 mile per year through this program and as funds accumulate, we are able to pave eligible roads.
PCRD oversees these paving projects and may put them out to bid while retaining the right to complete the project.
